Center of an Ideal Town

If you want to visit this place, we are talking about actual square named “Trg bana Josipa Jelacica” and surrounding area

The contractor to be named to build Karlovac was Matija Gambon (? — Northern Italy, IV. 1591) according to design of an unkwnon Italian architect (we do not really know who it was. Three most likely architects are Giovanni Sallustio Peruzzi, brothers Giulio and Ottavio Baldigar and Niccolo Angeli). Matija Gambon was given an exceptional opportunity to build  an unusual town in Europe;  in the Renaissance style. Two later in same manner built towns are Nove Zamky in Chechia and Palmanova in Italy.
Karlovac got his architecture in a pure geometrical ground plan in which the urban area was outlined in a shape of an hexagone, otrhogonally divided by a network of six interacting streets, enclosing blocks of 4900 square meters. Gambon inserted a total of 24 blocks. The central block was not built up. This area was preserved as a ceremonial square, and even today possesses the same dimensions which were originally given to it by Gambon.
On following pictures you can see contours of the original six star shape and 24 blocks of the heart of the town with strictly centered ceremonial square
